New initiatives from the IOR

The IOR President's Fund raises money for innovative activities to enhance the standing of the refrigeration industry and the Institute. The sums raised have been used to underwrite exceptional expenditure such as the IOR Centenary initiatives, and to cover the cost of IOR representation at high profile international refrigeration events. 

Companies of all sizes can contribute to this work

• donations of £5000 or over will be acknowledged on the IOR website, annual report and at the Annual Dinner.
• Regular donations of £500 are equally valuable and such a commitment will also be acknowledged.
• Donors will become "Patrons of the IOR President's Fund" and will be leading the way in initiatives whose outputs will benefit the standing of our industry over the years to come.

Projects of this kind require collaboration with other bodies, both national and international. Underwriting by the President's Fund enables the Institute to leverage other sources such as in-kind contributions from members and supportive organisations such as the Carbon Trust. 

Projects developed in this way have included:

• Guidance for owners of refrigeration equipment in the food processing sector
• A system efficiency index calculator for complex refrigeration systems
• The refrigeration emissions and leakage zero project which developed guidance and tools to help tackle the issues of direct leakage (REAL Zero) sponsored by the Carbon Trust and industry.
• Careers in cooling - a publicity campaign to raise awareness amongst schools of the potential of careers in the sector
• REAL Skills Europe - an EU Leonardo funded project to develop e-learning tools related to reducing refrigerant leakage
• The formation of the Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Institute (ACHPI).
