Introduction to invertors for capacity control (ACHPI8)

There are various methods of capacity control of compressors in the market place.  Whilst the most basic method is simple on/off control this will not address part load conditions and consequently the net effect of the space temperature control could be rather crude. 

The range of more sophisticated methods of control that can be used include:

• hot gas by-pass control
• evaporator pressure control
• multiple compressor on/off control
• cylinder unloading control
• variable speed control. 

In this bulletin we focus on the variable speed control by inverter technology. This has proven to be one of the most efficient methods available.
