Harvesting

1.gif (150 bytes) Corn is picked by machines.
2.gif (222 bytes)The kernals are prepared and frozen into bags and stored locally in a cold store warehouse (which is like a giant fridge).
3.gif (253 bytes)Refrigerated lorries load crates of the frozen corn for transportation to the coast, where they are stored in cold store warehouses.
4.gif (227 bytes)A refrigerated cargo ship loads the corn into its hold for the journey to Britain.
5.gif (240 bytes)The corn is quickly unloaded from the cargo ship and stored in more cold store warehouses.
6.gif (235 bytes)Refrigerated lorries take them to central distribution points with Cold Stores.
7.gif (189 bytes)A refrigerated lorry from a supermarket or wholesaler will deliver the corn ordered by the retailer to individual shops.
8.gif (247 bytes)Supermarket's own  Refrigerated Lorries will take the amount of corn needed and deliver them to individual shops.
9.gif (249 bytes)The only unrefrigerated part of their journey starts now….they sit in a shopping trolley at room temperature, and then in the back of a warm car whilst you transport them back to your home.
10.gif (354 bytes)The corn is returned to your freezer compartment. Here they can be kept for up to twelve months safely, and at any time they can be cooked and served onto your plate.
