Fantastic Fridges is designed for the 11-14 year age group and their teachers. A selection of national curriculum subjects are explored in a practical way by looking at the role of one area of technology in our daily lives - refrigeration.
(See subject home pages for more details.)

Hard copies of the project sheets are not available but permission is given to print off, download or photocopy the material freely. The web site will be updated regularly with additional sections focusing on Science and Environment planned for the future.

The Institute of Refrigeration was established in 1899 to promote refrigeration for public benefit. It is an educational charity. The Institute represents over 2,300 individuals working in refrigeration in a variety of countries, and organises technical presentations, conferences and seminars on their behalf.

Fantastic Fridges is one of a series of education and training initiatives launched to mark its Centenary in 1999 and to raise awareness of the contribution made by refrigeration to the world today. The contents of the web site were developed by the Institute with the assistance of practising teachers, industry representatives and other trade bodies or information sources.

J Sainsbury plc have sponsored this site and are happy to assist teachers in organising visits to local supermarkets. If you require assistance in making contacts with local industry to arrange field trips or visitors to your school, please contact the Institute via the Feedback link below.

We invite students, teachers and schools to comment on the pack and how helpful it has been in the classroom.
