A1 Refrigerant (incl HFCs) Code of Practice

2009

Now Available as Download Only

The code covers non toxic, non flammable refrigerants in common use such as R134a, R404A and R410A and R407C, which are part of the Halocarbon family of HFC refrigerants.

The Institute of Refrigeration Safety Code complements and reinforces the technical requirements of BS EN 378:2008 which is the most critical standard for refrigeration and air conditioning system safety, design and commissioning.   The Code also recognises and incorporates relevant aspects of other standards and provides a substantial and updated list of references to standards, regulations, legislation, heath and safety and industry guidance. It is essential reading for designers, installers and those altering or maintaining existing systems

It is designed to provide key references to wider responsibilities as defined within the provisions of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974,  PSSR 2000 and DSEAR 2002.  The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (2000), the Ozone Depleting Substances Regulation and the European Regulation on Certain Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (2006) (F Gas Regulations)  impose certain obligations on the 'user' of refrigerating equipment which are also incorporated.

Requirements for A2 refrigerants have been moved to the Safety Code of Practice for Refrigerating Systems Utilising A2 and A3 Refrigerants. Requirements for Carbon Dioxide R-744 are covered by the Safety Code of Practice for Refrigerating Systems Utilising Carbon Dioxide Refrigerant.

This Code was amended in November 2009 - From time to time the IOR Technical Committee may need to issue updates or addendum to this Code, register for IOR news updates to ensure you are kept informed of any changes
