Basics of Hydrocarbon Refrigeration (TB34)2011
The bulletin answers the following questions:
- What are hydrocarbons (HCs)?
- Why use HCs?
- What are the hazards?
- How should I work safely with HC refrigerants?
- Is system design different?
- What training is available?
- Where can I get further information?
This is an introduction to the use of HCs as refrigerants - you should attend training before working on HC systems. This will provide more in depth information on the safe working procedures. BOC, the main supplier of HC refrigerants, limits sales of these refrigerants to engineers who have attended a training session. In addition, BS EN378 :2008 specifies that anyone working on HC systems should be competent.
